Let Them Be Little - I Heart Faces

This week on I Heart Faces the photo challenge is "Let Them Be Little" I can finally be involved in more photo challenges since we have a new little one in our household.

We had a little girl on Sept 24th 2011 and she's been a joy even after 14 years. Yep that's right I also have a 14 year old son. Never planned for there to be a gap like this but seems like the good Lord had other plans for us :)

Here is my little peanut Ione Minnie Ruth. And just for reference her name Ione is pronounced Eye-own. She was named after my husbands mother. Her middle names are after family as well. She's just got a name full of family :)

Arrival Day of Ione Minnie Ruth

So I've had several people ask when Ione's birth story would be shared and well things just haven't come together enough for me to have enough time to type it up. So here I sit and will attempt getting it typed up to share, can't promise anything. Oh wait eventually you will be reading it....lol.

So I woke up around 4am on Sept 24th 2011 to do the usual bathroom trip and I started to pay attention to the fact that I had cramping along with contractions. Nothing that was really setting a pattern but I dealt all night with the cramping so my sleep wasn't that great. I started writing down the time to see how far apart they were, then decided to call the hospital to talk to an OB nurse and see what they thought I should do. Since one of my trips to the bathroom also resulted in the famous *bloody show* as well.

Now since I had already been in the hospital on Sept 14th for around 13 or 14 hours and labor stopping I wasn't in a huge rush to go back to the hospital for fear it would stop yet again and I'd be sent home. But of course at this time I was 39 weeks and already had an induction date of Sept 30th if the wee one didn't arrive.

After an hour of timing the contractions I decided to just head on into the hospital and give it a whirl. So there I was 5 or 5:30am driving myself to the hospital in chilly and foggy weather. Ah the things ya do for your kids :) The hubs had to work, of course I would start labor on the weekend he was working....lol. So he and Caleb went off to work after they sent me off to the hospital. Thankfully my cramping and contractions weren't very painful but noticable. So I wasn't all that crazy for driving myself in.

I get to the hospital around 6:30 since the drive was so slow with all that nasty fog. I grab my laptop, purse and pillow and off I head into the ER entrance to check in and start my day of who knows how long at this point.

I get back to the birthing room they were setting me up in, get that lovely gown on and a robe then hooked up to the monitor to check things out, along with being checked to see how dilated I was. Sept 14th I left the hospital at almost a 4cm's dilated and when I was checked again I was still at a 4cm. So those 10 days didn't progress any in that department.

At first the contractions weren't really giving a pattern then they became closer together. I got hooked up to my antibiotics for my group b strep issue, so we had the 2 doses of that in my system before the baby was born.

The morning really seemed to drag on, since it was just me and one of the nurses, a nurse that I loved having by the way, Erin was just awesome! I was cracking jokes all morning and she would comment on that. its just who I am though....lol. Sometimes ppl might look at me like I don't get out into the world much with the way I have acted in public before :D Besides Erin my nurse I also had another lady come in, since she was being trained in delivery, so she had all the stuff to set up and just overall be there during delivery as part of her training. So basically there I was entertaining those two with my quirkiness :)

Around noon, I was eating lunch when of course the contractions and cramping got much more uncomfortable, so much to the point of I had to stand up and try and find a place comfortable enough to get through them. Erin came back in to check on me and noticed right away that my contractions were indeed getting stronger. She asked if I wanted something for them, and I was more then willing to get my epidural to ease them.

So off she went to contact my Dr and get things moving in that area. They did another check and I was finally at 5 cm's. So the man with the wonderful drugs was sent up to my room to hook me up and my Dr was hanging out waiting for it to kick in and break my water. At this point my Dr told me "Now is the time to call Mitch and get him here, because we don't know how fast things will progress." So as I was waiting for the drug guy I called and told him what was going on and that he needed to leave work *now* and get to the hospital.  After I called him I called my mom to tell her that now was the time to get to the hospital since mom was in the room when Caleb was born she wanted to be there for this one as well. Of course mom was closer then Mitch was so she arrived before Mitch and Caleb did.

I get the epidural and let me tell you what, it was AWESOME....lol. They would ask, "did ya feel that contraction?" I was like "what contraction?" So yeah it was great to finally be able to relax, even if I couldn't feel my legs much at that time. Oh yeah and the lovely side effect of feeling itchy all over. That was fun....lol

So my Dr breaks my water and there we are just hanging out, them watching the monitor to keep an eye on baby and all that fun stuff. There I was back to cracking jokes, to which both nurses was beginning to think it was the epidural making me goofy, but after my mom showed up she told them right out that nope, that's just indeed my personality.

I got about an hour and a half of relief from the contractions when suddenly I started feeling them again, and it went from feeling them to them being back to painful. Mitch and Caleb showed up right around the time things were starting to get a bit painful. Caleb wasn't going to be in the room during the birth but he was hanging out until that time. Of course he witnessed his mother in extreme pain which might just have scarred him for life. Sheesh poor kiddo.

So I get checked again and I was right around 6 or 7 cm's so we were cruising right along in progression. Faster then I expected that's for sure.I didn't keep an eye on what time it was when being checked each time so I am not able to give you really good detail in that department.

Suddenly things got a lot unbearable, Caleb went running outta the room with my mom so that he didn't see anything he didn't want to see, they checked again and i was fully dialted and things were ready to go. As the contractions came and weren't fun for me, they also weren't fun for baby. She wasn't liking the contractions at all.

My Dr came into the room quickly trying to get all her stuff on and be ready while it seemed like there were many people in the room rushing around. My memory probably isn't going to be as good when it comes to this next part as it seems like things blurred together more then I thought they would.

We started pushing and of course being the whimp that I can be when it comes to pain I was really thinking I wasn't going to be able to do it since that cramping with the contractions were the worst things ever! But Erin, the other nurse, my Dr, mom and Mitch were all telling me I could do it. Erin at one point got right up in my face to tell me I was doing a great job. I ended up with the oxygen mask on since baby was having issues in this final part. We tried some pushes on my back and eventually I was lying on my right side and pushing it seemed to the the side that worked the best to make less stress on the baby during the whole process.

Around 20-25 minutes of pushing and little miss was finally head out. In which we find out the cord was around her neck AND the little turkey had her left hand against her cheek. So yep she made some extra work for us on this delivery. They ended up using the vacuum on her little head to help her come out because of that little hand being on her face. I ended up with two 2nd degree tears and that's it. Things went much smoother then Caleb's delivery. Then again with Caleb I pushed for almost 3 hours....lol.

But she came out healthy and everything even if her delivery had some excitement involved. And to point this out Mitch and Caleb arrived 55 minutes before she was born.
